bill mohrWHAT BOOKS PRESS TITLE:
The Headwaters of Nirvana Bill Mohr is the author or editor of several volumes
of poetry or criticism, among them Hidden Proofs and Bittersweet Kaleidoscope. In addition to publishing landmark collections of Los Angeles poets such as Poetry Loves Poetry in 1985, he was the editor of Momentum Press from 1974 to 1988 and brought out books by poets such as Alicia Ostriker, Jim Krusoe, Holly Prado, Kate Braverman, Jim Moore, Harry Northup, Joseph Hansen, and Leland Hickman. His highly acclaimed monograph,Holdouts: The Los Angeles Poetry Renaissance 1948-1992, was published by the University of Iowa Press in 2011. His spoken-word recording, Vehemence, was released by New Alliance Records in 1993. His poems have appeared in dozens of magazines in the past 40 years, including Antioch Review, Santa Monica Review, Sonora Review, and Caliban on-line. His poetry has been translated into Italian, Japanese, Croatian, and Spanish. Mohr has a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California, San Diego and is a professor in the Department of English at CSU Long Beach, where he has taught 20th century American literature and creative writing since 2006. His honors include an award as a visiting scholar at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles and the George Drury Smith Award from Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center in Venice, California. |
